The Cock of Arran

Walking

The Cock of Arran route is so called because at one time this stretch of land bore a resemblance to the silhouette of a cockerel, when seen from the sea

This tour is 10 miles long, please allow at least 2 hours 55 minutes to complete it, excluding the time taken to enjoy the destinations along the way.

Start this route in the village of Sannox, where there is the opportunity to explore its Viking heritage, before passing through tranquil Sannox Bay and following the route northwards. This is a peaceful walking trail, which adheres mostly to Arran’s eastern coast and offers stunning vistas across to the Isle of Bute. There are some parts of the route where terrain becomes more rocky and treacherous, although the going is mostly gentle. Finishing up at the picturesque village of Lochranza, take time to marvel at the stunning loch-side castle – or perhaps take in a round of golf before sampling some of the eponymous distillery’s finest whiskies.
