About Kilchattan Bay
Kilchattan Bay is a small village on the south of the Isle of Bute which lies at the foot of a steep hill called the Suidhe Chattan. The village, featuring Victorian villas, lies on the edge of a picturesque bay, which is part of the West Island Way walking route.
By the late 1800s, the area produced a large number of tiles and bricks, mostly for export. They were shipped out from the pier at Kilchattan Bay itself. However, The Kilchattan Tile Works closed, for good this time, in 1915 and today there is very little to show they ever existed. Many come to see the ruins of St Blane’s. This well-preserved site is an interesting glimpse into the past, with most of what remains dating back to the 1100s. It is one of the earliest Christian settlements on the island.

There are several shops and cafes in the area. There are also places to stay including St Blane's Hotel, which offers food and drink too.
