Castle and Cake
23rd February 2020

Every effort has been made to verify the accuracy of the event information but we recommend contacting the event organisers before attending.

A two hour experience including an hour-long guided tour of Kelburn Castle, concluding with refreshments in the Dining Room. Take a VIP tour through the 900-year history of Kelburn Castle, from its origins and architectural additions to its varied and eclectic inhabitants. Learn about the past Earls of Glasgow, each with their own intriguing history. Kelburn Castle continues to evolve and, as part of the tour, you’ll be informed on how previous generations lived, and how the current Restoration Project is crucial to maintaining the structural integrity for future generations. The tour will conclude with light refreshments in the Dining Room – including cakes and soup. The Dining Room, which was built in the Victorian era by the 6th Earl of Glasgow and still retains its original Morris wallpaper, overlooks the Firth of the Clyde and its islands. Extend your day with the self-led ‘History Trail’, and follow the information boards up through the Glen towards ‘The Monument’ and down towards the Walled Garden. Return to the Country Centre where you can read the ‘cartoon story’ of the Castle, drawn by British artist Don Aldridge and situated in the Old Byre. Allow yourself an extra 45 minutes for the above self-guided walk or 20 minutes if viewing the Walled Garden.
